Bracketology: FSU Still Primed for Orlando

Five bracketologists, five different opponents, three different seeds, three different regions and one location.

That’s how bracket experts have things aligned for Florida State currently. The Seminoles are 23-7 and 11-6 in ACC play. FSU will close the regular season on Saturday against Miami before playing in the ACC Tournament and then the NCAA Tournament for the first time in five years.

All five experts have the Seminoles headed for Orlando, but the highest that FSU is currently seeded by any is second. That comes from USA Today’s Shelby Mast, who in a bracket released Friday has FSU penciled into the East Region against No. 15 seed and projected Atlantic Sun champion Florida Gulf Coast.

Three other experts project FSU to the West Region. SB Nation’s Chris Dobbertean has the Seminoles holding a No. 3 seed and facing No. 14 seed and projected MAC champion Akron in a bracket updated Friday.

Both ESPN’s Joe Lunardi and CBS Sports’ Jerry Palm have FSU as a No. 4 seed in their latest brackets. Lunardi’s bracket, which was released Thursday, pits FSU against No. 13 seed and projected Ohio Valley champion Belmont. Palm’s bracket, which was updated Friday, pairs the Seminoles with projected Ivy League champion Princeton, a No. 13 seed.

Dave Ommen of NBC Sports also projects FSU as a No. 4 seed, but in the Midwest Region. Ommen has the Seminoles matched up with No. 13 seed and projected American East champion Vermont in his latest bracket Thursday.

FSU will find out its actual fate a week from Sunday during the NCAA Tournament Selection Show. The Seminoles will likely need a top 4 seed to get to Orlando and can do that with a win over Miami on Saturday and a good showing in the ACC Tournament.

The Hurricanes are currently projected as a No. 7 seed by three of the five experts and as a No. 8 seed by Ommen and Lunardi.
