The Daily Nole — Sept. 21, 2016: QB Malik Henry Returns to Practice

For Florida State fans who work Monday through Friday jobs, today is hump day and we’re just three days away from FSU trying to avenge last week’s disheartening loss against Louisville. This week, the Seminoles will take on South Florida. Before then however, there’s plenty to report. The news and notes section will be updated as the day goes on.

Lead Story

Florida State head coach Jimbo Fisher confirmed Tuesday that freshman quarterback Malik Henry had rejoined the team. Henry was suspended during fall camp for a violation of team rules after a solid spring.

Once a 5-star prospect, Henry was very impressive in the spring game, but has had his fair share of transgressions dating back to high school. Henry’s recent suspension led many to suspect that his days as a Seminole were numbered, but his return is more than welcomed.

Though Henry is back, it is unlikely that he does anything other than redshirt this season. Redshirt freshman Deondre Francois isn’t likely to relinquish his starting job and senior backup Sean Maguire seems to be close to healthy. Redshirt sophomore J.J. Consentino was the first quarterback off the bench in Saturday’s loss at Louisville.

Between the Lines

There were no athletic events for Florida State on Tuesday.

On the Agenda

There are no FSU athletic events scheduled for Wednesday. The Florida State soccer team will resume ACC play against Wake Forest on Thursday.

News and Notes

According to media reports, Fisher also confirmed Tuesday that wide receiver George Campbell had undergone successful surgery to repair a groin injury. Defensive end Josh Sweat also practiced after injuring his knee last Thursday. Sweat did play sparingly against Louisville over the weekend.

During Saturday’s contest between FSU and South Florida, both coaching staffs will wear patches to honor AFCA’s Coach to Cure MD. The goal is to raise awareness for muscular dystrophy.
