The Daily Nole — Sept. 10, 2016: FSU Volleyball Wins Two

Here’s a look at what you may have missed Friday and what you can look forward to Saturday. This post will be updated as the day goes on:

Lead Story

Florida State volleyball won a pair of matches Friday, beating both Florida A&M and Arkansas Little-Rock in straight sets.

The day started with FSU beating the Rattlers, 25-20, 25-22, 25-21. Katie Horton led the Seminoles with 13 kills and nine digs.

FSU won the second match of the day over Arkansas-Little Rock, 25-25, 25-19 and 25-20. Horton again led FSU in kills with 13. Brianne Burket topped the Noles with 12 digs.

The Seminoles improved to 5-1 on the season with the two victories and will hope to build on a No. 13 national ranking.

Between the Lines

In addition to FSU’s volleyball team winning a pair of matches, the men’s tennis team had a nice day in doubles going 5-1 in matches. In singles matches, FSU went just 2-5.

On the Agenda

No. 3 Florida State football will plays its home opener against Charleston Southern at 12:30 p.m. while the men’s golf team will open the Rod Myers Invitational in Durham, North Carolina.

News and Notes

247Sports unveils the new Champion’s Club. From the look of it, it was money well spent.

Beach volleyball player Sara Putt will transfer from Stetson to FSU. She’ll have to sit one year, but will be eligible for the 2018 season.

FSU inducted nine new members into its athletic Hall of Fame on Friday night. Some of the more notable names include former tackle Alex Barron for the football team, former baseball outfielder and 2005 Collegiate Baseball National Player of the Year, Shane Robinson and track and field shot-putter and Rhodes scholar, Garrett Johnson.

ESPN’s College Gameday will be at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium next week for Louisville’s Sept. 17 contest against FSU. The Cardinals entered the week ranked No. 13 and beat Syracuse 62-28 on Friday night to improve to 2-0.

FSU defeated Charleston Southern 52-8 on Saturday to start the season 2-0. Deondre Francois passed for three touchdowns in the win. Dalvin Cook rushed for two scores.
