Three Florida State players were named to watch lists on Tuesday and none of them came as a surprise.

FSU junior running back Dalvin Cook was named to the Maxwell Award watch list as the nation’s best player. As a sophomore in 2015, Cook enjoyed the greatest season ever for an FSU rusher, going for nearly 1,700 yards on the ground and 20 total touchdowns. Cook is less than 1,300 yards away from breaking Warrick Dunn’s career school rushing record.

Defensive end DeMarcus Walker, a senior, and sophomore safety Derwin James were each named to the Bednarik Award watch list as the nation’s best defensive player.

Walker had a breakout season as a junior in 2015, recording 10.5 sacks and 15.5 tackles for loss to go along with an interception and four forced fumbles. This, after Walker recorded just a single sack in each of his first two seasons in Tallahassee.

James did just about everything for Florida State as a freshman in 2015, finishing second on the team in total tackles, tackles for loss, sacks, forced fumbles and fumble recoveries. James led the squad with 52 solo stops.

The Seminoles will open the 2016 season in Orlando on Sept. 5 against Ole Miss.
