FSU Stock Report (May 18, 2016)

It was a productive weekend for Florida State as the Seminoles claimed two ACC in championships in two days. There’s been some news to report around the football team and when it comes to beating the weather, FSU baseball has been defeated. Here’s Wednesday’s FSU stock report:

Stock Up

FSU women’s sports: It’s been a great spring for Florida State’s women’s teams. The beach volleyball team reached the national championship earlier this month and over the weekend, two women’s teams claimed ACC crowns in consecutive days. The FSU softball team defeated Notre Dame on Saturday to claim a third straight ACC Tournament title. The following day, the women’s track and field team blew away the competition to win the ACC. The women’s golf team has already advanced to the NCAA Championships later this month.

FSU offensive line: After breaking in four new starters last season, the Florida State offensive line is expected to be a strong suit for the Seminoles this season. Tackle Roderick Johnson has been pegged by many as a first round pick in the 2017 NFL Draft and on Tuesday, center Alec Eberle was named to the Rimington Trophy watch list. That award is annually given to the nation’s best center.

Stock Down

FSU’s national seed chances: For the first time since D1Baseball.com and Baseball America started predicting fields of 64, FSU does not occupy a national seed. Both publications have the Seminoles hosting a regional, but not a Super Regional. For that to change, FSU needs strong showings against No. 4 Miami and then in the ACC Tournament.

Weather: After having the game postponed from May 4, Florida State’s scheduled baseball contest with Stetson on Tuesday was called to weather. It marked the fifth game this year that had been cancelled due to inclement weather. FSU had two home games against North Carolina State cancelled as a result of rain and two at Boston College cancelled because of snow. FSU scheduled two midweek games with Texas Tech and another with Florida Gulf Coast to try to combat the weather, but it is still a net loss of two games.

Worth Noting

  • Florida State men’s golf team is currently on pace to advance to the NCAA Championships. The Seminoles are currently fourth in the Kohler Regional and six strokes ahead of sixth-place Idaho. The top five teams advance.
  • FSU men’s tennis team was defeated by Baylor 4-3 on Saturday in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. The Seminoles finish the year 18-9.
  • FSU’s opening game of the NCAA Softball Tournament against Florida A&M will be broadcast on ESPN3. Estimated start time is set for 2:30 p.m. EST.
  • Florida State linebacker Tyrell Lyons announced Tuesday that he is leaving the program. Lyons, a redshirt junior, recorded just 11 career tackles.
  • Florida State’s soccer schedule was also released. FSU opens the year on Aug. 19 at Texas A&M and concludes the season at North Carolina on Oct. 27. The Seminoles’ home-opener comes against rival Florida on Sept. 2.
