Florida State’s losing streak hit a season-high on Friday night as the Seminoles dropped their third straight game in a 5-4 loss at Duke.

The Blue Devils broke a 2-2 tie with three runs in the third inning and FSU couldn’t chip away enough. In his first Friday start, Drew Carlton took the loss for FSU. Duke’s Kellon Urbon got the win to improve to 7-1 on the season.

The Good: Though neither starter pitched great, they both ate up innings to keep their respective teams from eating too far into the bullpen. Carlton worked seven innings for FSU while Urbon went 6 1/3 for the Blue Devils. The two bullpens combined to allow just two hits in 3 2/3 combined shutout innings.

The Bad: Despite four extra base hits, FSU managed just four runs. The Seminoles left eight men on base and hit into a pair of double plays. John Sansone and Jackson Lueck both doubled for the Seminoles while Ben DeLuzio doubled and tripled.

The Ugly: FSU third baseman John Sansone continued to struggle defensively. Sansone committed his 15th error of the season on Friday night. In Wednesday’s loss to Florida Gulf Coast, Sansone committed a first inning error and bobbled another ball that was ruled a hit.

Studs of the Game: Duke’s Jack Labosky and Michael Smiciklas each homered and drove in a pair of runs in Friday’s win. Taylor Walls stayed red hot for FSU, finishing 4-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs. Lueck and Sansone each had two hits and a RBI in the loss.

Duds of the Game: Quincy Nieporte and Cal Raleigh were each 0-for-4 at the plate for Florida State in the loss. Catcher Chris Proctor was 0-for-4 for Duke.
