Delaware State at FSU: Gameday Quick Hits

Mitch White/FSU athletics

It’s Senior Day and homecoming in Tallahassee as Florida State gets set to host Delaware State. The Seminoles are off to a disappointing 3-6 start, but will get an FCS opponent, who at 2-8, is in a much worse position.

FSU is coming off another tough loss as it fell at Clemson, 31-14, last Saturday. The Seminoles had the ball in Clemson territory down by three with less than seven minutes to play, but were unable to capitalize for the tying or go-ahead score. The Hornets have won just twice in their last 21 games. Before things kick off, catch up on our coverage of the contest:

  • Under head coach Jimbo Fisher, FSU is 8-0 against FCS opponents.
  • The closest margin of victory for FSU against an FCS opponent under Fisher was 37-12 against The Citadel in 2014. The largest came against Murray State to open the 2012 season, 69-3.
  • FSU’s average margin of victory over FCS foes in the Fisher era is 47.8 points per game.
  • Florida State and Delaware State have never met head-to-head in any sport.

  • The only shutout of an FCS team under Fisher was a 55-0 win over Savannah State in a 2012 contest shortened by rain. The last shutout over an FCS team in a 60-minute game came over Western Carolina to open the 2008 season, 69-0.
  • FSU has scored six non-offensive touchdowns in its last 11 games against FCS opponents. The most recent was an 89-yard punt return for a score last season by Jesus Wilson against Charleston Southern.
  • A loss on Saturday would give FSU its first losing season since 1976 and mean that it would miss a bowl game for the first time since 1981.
  • FSU has won four straight games on Senior Day. The last loss came to Florida to close the 2012 regular season, 37-26.
  • Florida State has won five straight games on homecoming. The last defeat was a 14-13 loss to Virginia in 2011.
  • FSU looks to avoid losing four games at home for the first time since 2006.
  • A seventh loss would be the most for Florida State since the Seminoles finished 3-8 in 1975.
