FSU RB Signee Khalan Laborn Qualifies

We saw what Florida State freshman running back Cam Akers can do during the annual spring game earlier this month. Now, it won’t be long before FSU fans get to see what a second 5-star back can do.

Sources have confirmed that Virginia native Khalan Laborn has qualified and will be part of the 2017 roster. A 5-star recruit, Laborn was the nation’s top all-purpose back for 2017, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

On Jan. 1, he was named the MVP of the Under Armour All-America Game, finishing with 74 yards rushing and a touchdown on just eight carries. At 5-10 and 200 pounds, Laborn can do just about everything, but there was some question as to whether or not he would eligible academically.

Laborn could immediate join a mix of backs vying for carries, including Akers, junior Jacques Patrick and sophomore Amir Rasul. In an interview with The Daily Nole in August, Laborn said he was looking forward to the competition.

“There’s definitely going to be a lot of competition, but I like competition,” he said. “We’re all on the same team, but at the end of the day, it’s still a competition. I won’t worry about it too much. I’m confident.”

Laborn was the top-ranked player from Virginia for 2017. The Seminoles have signed the top player from that state now in three straight years. The other two include cornerback Levonta Taylor and defensive end Josh Sweat. In total, FSU has seven players from Virginia on the roster. The only two states to produce more current Seminoles are Florida and Georgia.
