FSU Senior Moments: Best of the Rest

Jeff Romance/FSU athletics

With the exception of the Orange Bowl game still to be played, another season of Florida State football is in the books. While the Seminoles will also lose some juniors who leave early for the NFL Draft and other players who will transfer for other reasons, FSU will say goodbye to a special group of seniors.

After winning a national championship as freshmen, this senior class has FSU in position for a top 10 finish. This was also the first class in FSU history to go a combined 8-0 against Florida and Miami.

As the Orange Bowl nears and their careers wind down, we’ll look back on the most prominent moments in the careers of some notable Florida State seniors. We’ll conclude our series with a look at three seniors who made marginal impacts throughout their FSU playing career, but are still deserving of recognition. In our final installment, we’ll briefly visit the careers of defensive tackle Justin Shanks, guard Keith Week and punter Jack Steed:

Justin Shanks, DT
Injuries kept the 345-pound Alabama native from ever reaching his full potential, but Justin Shanks did contribute meaningful snaps during his career. Shanks did his best work as a run-stuffer, finishing his career with eight total tackles, including three solo stops as a senior.

Jack Steed, P
A transfer from Oklahoma, Jack Steed spent just one season in Tallahassee. Steed punted just once for 33 yards, but did a nice job as the placeholder for Ricky Aguayo and Logan Tyler on field goal attempts.

Keith Weeks, G
A walk-on offensive lineman from Valrico, Keith Weeks was one of the feel-good stories of the early parts of the 2016 season. Weeks did enough on the scout team to earn a scholarship and though it mostly came on special teams and in mop-up duty, he appeared 24 career games.
