FSU Powers Past Clemson On Easter, 7-3

Florida State used power hitting to get past the Clemson Tigers on an Easter afternoon at Dick Howser Stadium by a score of 7-3. The win snaps a 4-game skid for the Seminoles, who will play the rubber game with Clemson on Monday night.

The Good: Power hitting was on display for the Seminoles on Sunday afternoon. Three different players in Taylor Walls, Quincy Nieporte, and Dylan Busby smacked home runs off Clemson in the first three innings. In addition to the obvious momentum boost it gives, the six runs gained from the hits gave Florida State a cushion against a great team. Whereas Saturday saw the Noles fall into a big deficit that hindered a comeback, Sunday witnessed them solidify a win.

The Bad: The Tigers were not necessarily “struggling” to produce on the bats. FSU’s Tyler Holton pitched a decent game, but Clemson was still getting opportunities with eight hits and a number of runners on base. The issue was that Clemson kept leaving them there. Overall eight batters were left on base, compared to Florida State’s four. Some of the credit should still go to Florida State for getting itself out of those situations.

The Ugly: Clemson seems to have followed the same script Florida State did Saturday night. The Tigers played very well for most of the game, shutting down the Seminoles at the plate and trickling in scores. But the first and third innings where they gave up four and three runs were too big of a hole to climb out of, especially against Holton. The moral of the story? If you want to see runs, better show up early.

Studs of the Game: Dylan Busby was one of two players to get multiple hits. He got the most out of them with one home run, three RBIs, and one run himself. Seth Beer once again showed why he’s one of the best hitters in college baseball, homering for a second straight day.

Duds of the Game: Clemson starting pitcher Alex Eubanks lasted three innings before being pulled. In those three innings, he gave up six hits and seven earned runs. Andrew Cox was also a non-factor for the Tigers at the plate. He had four at-bats and did not register a single statistic.

Extra Innings: Aren’t Seminoles fans happy that FSU didn’t…lay an egg on Easter? Get it?
