FSU Women’s Tennis: No. 1 Vandy Blanks Noles in Elite Eight, 4-0

The deepest NCAA Tournament run in the history of Florida State’s women’s tennis program will go no further. In Winston-Salem on Saturday, the Seminoles were no match for No. 1 seed Vanderbilt as the Commodores rolled past FSU in the Elite Eight, 4-0.

FSU (20-13) didn’t win a single set on Saturday and were easily disposed of by Vanderbilt (26-3). The Commodores clinched the match with a straight set victory from Summer Dvorak over FSU’s Andrea Garcia, 6-4, 6-0.

After taking the doubles point, Vanderbilt easily took three singles matches. In addition to the clincher, Fernanda Contreras beat Florida State’s Petra Hule, 6-1, 6-1 and Vandy’s Astra Sharma downed the Seminoles’ Carla Touly, 6-3, 6-1.

The closest FSU can to winning a set on Saturday was on Court 4 as Gabriella Castaneda lost a tiebreak to Vanderbilt’s Amanda Meyer. She was down 2-0 in the second set.

Through four duals at the NCAA Tournament, Vanderbilt is the only team yet to allow an opponent to win a match. The Commodores head to the national semifinals where they will face either No. 4 national seed Georgia Tech or No. 12 national seed UCLA.
