The Daily Nole — Jan. 19, 2018: FSU Women Rally Past Wake in OT

Lead Story

Florida State’s women’s basketball gave it all it had on Thursday night as the Seminoles pulled off an 81-79 comeback victory in overtime over Wake Forest in Winston-Salem.

FSU trailed by 15 in the fourth quarter, by seven with less than three minutes to play and by four in the game’s final 20 seconds before Imani Wright knocked down a pair of 3-pointers to force overtime. Shakayla Thomas scored four of the six FSU points in the extra period. FSU led 81-78 when Wake Forest’s Ivan Raca went to the line for three free throws with a second left, but only one went down.

Wright beat her own school-record for 3-pointers with nine en route to finishing with a game-high 31 points. Thomas added 28 points and 11 rebounds. Ama Degbeon recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Ariel Stephenson led the Demon Deacons with 21 points.

With the hard-fought victory, FSU improves to 17-2 and 5-1 in ACC play. The Seminoles will play at Louisville on Sunday.

Between the Lines

FSU women’s hoops was the only scheduled athletic event for Thursday.

On the Agenda

FSU swimming and diving will host Notre Dame on Friday. FSU track and field will be in Iowa City for the Larry Wieczorek Invitational.
