Report: Maryland Offensive Coordinator Walt Bell Hired by Florida State

Head coach Willie Taggart is working fast on filling out the final spots with the Florida State football staff. Tuesday night brought news that Maryland offensive coordinator Walt Bell would take the same position in Tallahassee.

Bell is a 32-year old up-and-comer in the coaching ranks who is well regarded in many circles. Originally a wide receiver at Middle Tennessee, Bell served as a grad assistant at Memphis and Southern Miss before being promoted to wide receivers coach with the Golden Eagles in 2011.

He then took the tight ends coaching job at North Carolina for two years before moving on to Arkansas State as an offensive coordinator. Maryland hired him in 2015 and he’s been the offensive coordinator since then.

Looking at his resume should excite Seminoles fans. Bell has been a part of prolific offenses at each coaching stop of his career. His most recent stint at Maryland has produced nothing but good results and improved offensive output for the Terrapins. Taggart is reportedly bringing him on for the offensive coordinator and quarterback coaching duties, which are two areas that Bell has proven capable in.

There now remains just one spot open on the FSU staff. According to some reports, the wide receiver coaching position will be filled by David Kelly. Kelly joined the staff earlier this year, though his exact position was unknown.
