Florida State raced to an early lead and never really looked back in a Wednesday matinee in which the Seminoles pounded Kennesaw State at the Donald L. Tucker Center, 98-79.

FSU (4-0) jumped to a 14-2 lead prior to the first TV timeout and from there, the contest never got closer than nine. The Seminoles led 54-42 at the break and by as many as 25 points in the second half.

Phil Cofer led five Florida State players in double-figures with a career-high 21 points on 9-for-11 shooting to go with a game-high nine rebounds. Braian Angola added 17 points and seven rebounds. Terance Mann, C.J. Walker and M.J. Walker scored 13, 12 and 11 points, respectively.

As a team, FSU shot 55 percent from the field and 11-for-26 from downtown. Kennesaw State (1-4) managed to stay in the game by shooting 9-for-18 or 50 percent from beyond the arc. The Owls came in shooting less than 40 percent as a team, but shot 45 percent on Wednesday.

James Scott led Kennesaw State with 17 points and Tyler Hooker added 16 on a day where the two tied for a team-best with four assists. FSU’s Trent Forrest had a game-high six assists. Also hitting double figures for the Owls was Kosta Jankovic with 13 points on 5-for-6 shooting and a perfect 3-for-3 from distance and Nick Masterson, who too scored 13 on 4-for-6 from deep.

FSU set a new season-high for points and points allowed on Wednesday while running its home winning streak to 23 games. Next up for the Seminoles is a home date with The Citadel on Friday. Kennesaw State will host Tennessee State on Saturday.
