FSU Reschedules Contest with Louisiana-Monroe

Florida State will play 12 regular season games in 2017 after all.

According to a release, the Seminoles will play Louisiana-Monroe at noon EST on Dec. 2. The contest was originally slated to be FSU’s home opener for Sept. 9, but was called because of Hurricane Irma.

With the ACC title game out of reach, the addition of a 12th game will give FSU a better shot at becoming bowl-eligible. At 3-5, the Seminoles needed to run the table to get to that magical sixth win, but the addition of the Warhawks gives FSU four chances to win three games.

For the season, Louisiana-Monroe, out of the Sun Belt, is 4-5, but did hang tough with Memphis and recently defeated Appalachian State. This will be only the second meeting between the schools with the Seminoles pitching a 34-0 shutout to open the 2011 campaign in the first.

No television network has yet been set for the contest.

I have mixed emotions about this. The bowl streak and extra practices are good, assuming FSU beats Clemson or Florida.

I was hoping to see some new coaches, to possibly help recruiting. If FSU is bowl eligible, Jimbo will be delayed in getting new coaches, and will have to walk a fine line in what he tells recruits. Obviously most replacements will probably be bowling, so there would be some uncertainty either way. This might make it awkward for outgoing coaches.
