For the first time since 2013, Boston College has won three straight ACC games. For the first time under head coach Jimbo Fisher, Florida State has five losses.

It was domination from the start at Alumni Stadium on Friday night as the Eagles (5-4, 3-3 ACC) knocked off FSU for the first time since 2009, 35-3.

Boston College used a trick play to get the scoring started as former quarterback Jeff Smith found Kobay White for a 34-yard touchdown midway through the first quarter. FSU (2-5, 2-4 ACC) responded with a trick play of its own as running back Cam Akers found Nyqwan Murray for a 47-yard pass play to put the Seminoles in scoring position. On what would be the Seminoles’ best opportunity to find the end zone, a mishandled exchange on 2nd-and-goal between quarterback James Blackman and Akers from the BC 9-yard-line was recovered by the Eagles and Florida State never threatened to make it a game again.

A.J. Dillon finished with 149 yards rushing and a touchdown for Boston College in the victory, but the defense may have been the story as the Eagles became the first team to hold FSU without a touchdown since Wake Forest in 2008. A BC defense that came in yielding 224 yards rushing per game held the Seminoles to 2.2 yards per carry and just 209 yards of total offense. The Eagles also forced three turnovers.

Boston College was able to extend its lead to 21-0 in the second quarter on an Anthony Brown touchdown pass to Tommy Sweeney, followed by a Brown touchdown run. FSU’s only score of the night came on a 36-yard field goal by Ricky Aguayo in the final minute of the first half to make the score 21-3.

Dillon’s lone touchdown of the night came from two yards out with 11 minutes left in the third quarter. It was set up by a muffed punt from FSU cornerback Tarvarus McFadden inside the Seminoles’ 15-yard-line. Backup quarterback Darius Wade capped the scoring with a 1-yard sneak on 4th-and-goal with 13 seconds left in the third quarter after Brown left the game with an apparent foot injury.

For the FSU offense, Murray was one of the bright spots, finishing with 102 yards receiving on three catches. Blackman passed for a season-low 102 yards on 11-for-26 passing with an interception. Brown complete just six of his 20 attempts for 54 yards while adding 20 yards rushing and the aforementioned score on three carries.

Boston College will look to win four straight ACC games for the first time since 2007 on Nov. 11 when it visits N.C. State. Florida State will look for its first home win next Saturday as the Seminoles play host to Syracuse.
