Florida State’s non-conference slate ended with a bang and a few blasts. In the final midweek game at Dick Howser Stadium on Tuesday night, the Seminoles pounded visiting Jacksonville 21-2 in a game that was called after the top of the eighth.

The 21 runs was a season-high for Florida State as the team now sits a season-best 14 games over .500. FSU will play its final home series of the year against Wake Forest, beginning on Friday.

The Good: For Florida State, not much went wrong as FSU scored 21 runs just three days after tying a season-high with 18 runs. With the exception of Matt Henderson, every FSU starter had at least one hit. In total, 12 different FSU hitters had a hit. In addition to the 17 hits, the Seminoles drew 11 walks and were hit by four pitches.

The Bad: Despite being outhit 17-7, the Dolphins left as many runners on base as FSU with 11. The teams combined to issue 19 walks, making the game a long one.

The Ugly: Six different Jacksonville pitchers worked and all but one allowed a run. Four of them lasted an inning or less. The one Dolphin hurler who didn’t yield a run was Mark Potter, who gave up two hits in just 1/3 of an inning. The 21 runs allowed was four more than previous season-high for Jacksonville.

Studs of the Game: FSU’s Drew Mendoza homered twice, which included a grand slam during a 9-run seventh inning, finishing with six RBIs and three runs scored. Taylor Walls, Dylan Busby and J.C. Flowers all had multiple hits for the Seminoles as well, combining for four runs scored and five RBIs. For Jacksonville, Evan Fernandez, Jacob Southern and Ruben Someillan all had two hits.

Duds of the Game: Any Jacksonville pitcher could probably earn this distinction, but Greg Shannahan gave up six runs in just an inning of work. At the plate, Nathan Koslowski was 0-for-5 for the Dolphins.
