Series Finale Between FSU and Miami Canceled by Rain

Florida State was unable to hold an early lead against Miami on Saturday, but we’ll never know whether or not it would have been able to on Sunday.

With FSU leading Miami 2-0 in the third inning of the rubber game on Sunday, the contest went into a weather delay and was eventually canceled. For it to have been an official game, the contest would have had to go five full innings.

The rain delay started less than an hour into the contest which began after 1 p.m. EST. During the rain, the infield in Coral Gables was not covered, despite equipment crews from FSU volunteering to help, according to reports.

FSU and Miami split the season series last year and unless the teams meet in the ACC or NCAA Tournament, that will again be the case in 2017. FSU won the series-opener on Friday 6-3 before Miami took Saturday’s contest in 10 innings, 5-4.

Florida State’s two runs Sunday were unearned as Taylor Walls and Jackson Lueck scored on an error by Miami first baseman Christopher Barr. The Seminoles did cancel a contest with Stetson scheduled for last week, but this is the first official rain-out of the season.

Florida State is 25-16 for the year and 10-10 in ACC play. The Seminoles will be at Stetson on Tuesday before opening a 3-game series with Virginia in Tallahassee next week.
