FSU Senior Moments: Jesus Wilson

With the exception of a bowl game still to be played, another season of Florida State football is in the books. While the Seminoles will also lose some juniors who leave early for the NFL Draft and other players who will transfer for other reasons, FSU will say goodbye to a special group of seniors.

After winning a national championship as freshmen, this senior class has FSU in position to compete for a major bowl for a fifth straight year. This was also the first class in FSU history to go a combined 8-0 against Florida and Miami.

As the bowl game nears and their careers wind down, we’ll look back on the most prominent moments in the careers of some notable Florida State seniors. After looking at two backfield veterans, we now look out wide to small, but speedy wide receiver Jesus “Bobo” Wilson and the top 5 moments of his FSU career.

A 3-star prospect out of Miami, Wilson contributed both as a receiver and a punt returner. It seemed as though many were waiting for someone taller and more heralded to ultimately supplant Wilson in the lineup, but that never materialized. As a senior this season, Wilson was leading the Seminoles with 30 catches for 390 yards before a foot injury against Wake Forest on Oct. 15 ended his career. Wilson finishes his career with more than 1,500 yards receiving and nine total touchdowns.

5. First Career TD
Sept. 6, 2014

After being suspended for the 2014 season-opener against Oklahoma State, Jesus Wilson was given his first real meaningful reps in the home opener against The Citadel. Wilson finished with three catches for 35 yards, but more importantly, found the end zone for the first time in his career. Late in the first quarter, Wilson took a screen pass from quarterback Jameis Winston and raced 12 yards down the sideline to put the Seminoles ahead 14-0. FSU would go on to win, 37-12.

4. Wilson Hits 100
Sept. 27, 2014

Throughout his career, Wilson hit the 100-yard receiving mark three times. The first time he did so, the Seminoles really needed him to. On the road against N.C. State, FSU fell behind 24-7 early and had to throw the ball to get back into the game. FSU finished the game on a 49-17 run with Wilson finishing the day with six catches for 109 yards receiving and two touchdowns. His 32-yard reception from Jameis Winston got the scoring started for FSU. With the Seminoles trailing 38-28, Wilson scored on a 15-yard pass from Winston to cut the lead to three. The contest not only served as Wilson’s first 100-yard game, but it was the only career game where he scored twice.

3. Career-Day to Open 2016
Sept. 5, 2016

The best effort of Jesus Wilson’s accomplished Florida State career came on Labor Day this year as he helped rally the Seminoles from a 28-6 deficit in a 45-34 victory over Ole Miss in Orlando. Wilson finished the day with nine catches for 125 yards — both career-highs — in the comeback victory. Seven of Wilson’s nine catches went for first downs.

2. Wilson Takes One to the House
Sept. 10, 2016

Just five days after having a career-effort against Ole Miss, Wilson had a career-first. Facing FCS Charleston Southern in its 2016 home opener, FSU jumped to a 21-0 first quarter lead and forced a Buccaneers punt on the ensuing defensive possession. Wilson was the returner on the punt and took the ball from his own 11-yard-line down the right sideline for an 89-yard touchdown. The return was the first FSU punt return for a score in four years and the third longest in FSU history.

1. Wilson Keeps the Drive Alive
Oct. 10, 2015

Things seemed to be slipping away from Florida State as the Seminoles met Miami at Doak Campbell Stadium in 2015. Miami had erased a 10-point deficit to take a 24-23 lead in the fourth quarter and had the Seminoles facing a 3rd-and-8 from deep inside their own territory. That’s when Wilson made a difficult catch in between defenders for a 20-yard gain and a first down. FSU would go on to score the game-winning touchdown on the drive on a 23-yard run by Dalvin Cook in a 29-24 victory.
