I don’t know who is worse, the o-line or Rickey “Shankapotomus” Aguayo.

The o-line is bad. It’s not the scheme this time around.

This offense does way better, running and passing, upfield. This offense sucks going east and west. I hope Willie figures that out soon. Nearly everyone else has.

I know Willie wants to run first. That said, the offense seems to function best passing the ball, so it may be pass to set up the run. Also, the best runs seem to be on straight handoffs rather than off fakes. Again, everyone except Willie seems to see that.

In the past Willie has adapted, unlike Jimbo who just digs in. Let see if this train can get turned around.

Ricky is horrible. Time for Tyler to kick field goals.

Part of the problem for Taggart is that he made a lot of noise about lethal simplicity, but the only explanations for the derpitude of the offense is: Either it’s not as simple as you say, or they’re all dumber than rocks.

The guys on the O-Line don’t move their feet, especially the tackles. They don’t seal the edges.

I’ve pretty much accommodated myself to a five-win season at best. That assumes substantial improvement on the part of the offense, because there is no way we’re beating Syracuse next week. That just is not going to happen.

I’d like to see some consistency. The potential has flashed a few times. The defense played pretty well after the first drive against VA Tech, until the end of the game. The defense played well against Samford in the 4th Qtr. The offense had a couple of flashes against VA Tech (Gavin catches, Akers long run), and the passing game came alive late against Samford.

Placekicking needs to change. My son’s high school team kicked better than FSU.

There’s a lot of talent out there. I’m still hopeful. I’ll re-evaluate after the Syracuse game.

Frankly, I didn’t see much of a pass rush against Samford, and I would really like to see the offense get away from this business of running east-west. I get the grief over the offensive line, but everyone who is seeing playing time has been in college ball at least two years before now. They can’t just run-block? Really?

Look, Francois is not going to run the ball. We know that now. Just run it up the gut and make ’em defend the interior line. And fer Chrissakes, the o-line? Just hit someone! This ain’t rocket science. These guys have been doing this for 12-15 years. It’s not that hard. Just hit someone and let the tailback pick a hole.

    Lethal simplicity. Horsefeathers.

    Gee…is it 2019 yet?

There’s one other thing I think needs to be pointed out. Taggart has hung the offensive line out to dry in comments after the ‘Cuse game, but he has said nothing critical of Francois. To me, that’s bull. I get why Taggart is doing it, but seriously, if you have to nurture the ego of your starting QB, you are in some seriously dire sh*t.

So what does everyone expect this Saturday against NIU? I mean, it sure would help if the play calling included a quick slant here and there, and more than one screen pass per game, but Francois, while he throws a pretty decent mid-range ball, was really inaccurate last week even when he had a nice, clean pocket from which to throw.

I’m sorry, I’m just completely un-sold on Deondre Francois. Not saying things would undoubtedly get better with the Slim Reaper, but Francois clearly wants nothing to do with running the ball, and that was always the big selling point for him to start over Blackman as far as I was concerned. Time to move on? I think so, particularly given that petulant little incident in which Francois declined to be helped up by an offensive lineman. Francois rolled over face down like a petulant child. It was dumbfounding.

I can’t imagine FSU beating Northern Illinois at this point, not without some improved play on offense. They opened up as double-digit favorites. Easy money if you ask me.

One never knows whether the short passing game might enjoy a revival, but I’m afraid I have to agree that it’s going to be utterly dismal if Taggart and Bell can’t figure out a way to put a few screens, slants and other plays that get the ball out quickly.

I’m not talking about these stupid bubble screens, either. The receivers aren’t executing those plays for beans. Just throw the fuc*king ball in a second and a half, already. If you’re in shotgun, how difficult is it? Seriously.

    Post NIU comments –

The first two drives showed what this team is capable of when the play-calling is vertical, and the team is focused.

This offense is not good enough to survive penalties and turnovers. This could have been a breakout game, but ended up as another disappointment on offense.

The defense has a chance to be scary good if….
The offense gets an early lead,
They stop giving up the occasional stupid big play.

There needs to be a little more push from the middle on pass plays to pressure the QB.

Taylor is getting abused by big receivers, despite relatively good coverage.

Linebacker play is getting better every week. Jackson has made some nice plays in space.

This offense needs to go north and south. There needs to be more quick hitting running plays.

I’ve noticed that about Taylor. They should move him to the slot. That’s where he’s going to end up in the NFL anyways.
