Leavitt signed an Oregon extension for $1.7 million per year. He’s not worth that. I’ve heard rumors that Jim Mora Jr. is another target.

Yeah, I got the news on the Leavitt thing in the wee hours. FSU was given the opportunity to match and declined.

Elko and Mel Tucker are in the running, along with Mora.

Agree that $1.7 million is a bit much. I guess Cristobal made it known that he really valued continuity, but people complained about Jimbo doing precisely that. We’ll see how Ducks fans feel about that in the next couple of years.

FSU was apparently willing to pay up to $1.2M.

I think what Cristobal is doing with the continuity is a different situation from Jimbo. Jimbo was supposedly about loyalty (though he didn’t take Kelly with him). Leavitt did a great job at Oregon, and Kelly did a medicore job at FSU, and was situationally bad. FSU’s salary pool of $5.5M for assistants will be among the top 5 in the country.

There is a lot of heat about this Alex Grinch cat. If you get a chance to read up on him, do it. He’s the DC at Washington State right now, and he might be the real deal.

Some of the noise has Grinch to Ohio State and to Texas A&M. Sounds like he is quite the commodity. What makes you think Taggart is on him?

I think Taggart is crazy if he hasn’t at least talked to him.

I don’t know because there are probably a lot of coaches who are available for this kind of job, and I’m in no position to say whether Grinch is one of the best candidates for a job in the Sunshine State. I’m not saying Grinch isn’t the real deal, just that I have no idea who is on Taggart’s short list.

For all I know, Grinch has no interest at all in moving, or maybe is willing to move, but not to the Southeast. You see what I mean about the number of moving parts here.

There are quite a few names being rumored. Taggart isn’t going to announce a hire until there’s an opening at FSU, which will be December 28th for coaches who won’t be retained, unless a coach leaves voluntarily before then.

There are a lot of so-called journalists bringing up names that aren’t under serious consideration. They use phrases like “these are people Willie should be considering”. That way they can say they were right later.

There are other journalists who have legitimate sources and insider information. They know who is being considered, even if deals ultimately fall though as happened with Leavitt. Nobody could predict Oregon would throw crazy money at Leavitt.

It looks like Raymond Woodie is on board now. That probably means Lawling won’t be retained.

Hmmm. Woodie could replace Lawing, or Woodie could coach inside LB’s. It will depend on who Taggart has lined up for DC.

I wonder if Taggart is specifically want to run a 3-4, or if it will just depend on who he hires?
