The Daily Nole — Nov. 22, 2021: FSU Soccer Tops Pepperdine to Advance to Elite Eight, 1-0

Lead Story

Florida State soccer is now one win from the College Cup. The top-seeded Seminoles advanced to the Elite Eight on Sunday with a 1-0 victory over Pepperdine in the Sweet 16.

The lone goal came in the fifth minute as Jody Brown outraced defenders before finding the back of the net. Assisting on the goal were Clara Robbins and Jaelin Howell.

FSU managed just nine shots to four for Pepperdine. The Waves however, did not get a single shot on goal. The Seminoles had four with goalkeeper Zoe Clevely coming away with three saves for Pepperdine.

The victory for FSU is its 19th of the season. FSU will host Michigan on Friday for a spot in the College Cup.

Between the Lines

In addition to FSU soccer’s victory on Sunday, FSU men’s basketball kicked off the Jacksonville Classic with a 73-45 win over Loyola Marymount. FSU women’s hoops topped Grambling State, 76-53.

On the Agenda

FSU basketball will take on Missouri in the Jacksonville Classic on Monday night. The contest begins at 8:30 p.m. ET and airs on CBS Sports Network.

News and Notes

Florida is currently listed as a 2-point favorite over FSU for Saturday’s contest.
