The Daily Nole — Nov. 6, 2021: FSU Soccer Tops Wake in OT to Advance to ACC Championship

Lead Story

For the seventh time in nine years, Florida State soccer will play in the ACC Championship match. The second-seeded Seminoles clinched their spot on Friday night with a 2-1 win over No. 6 seed Wake Forest in overtime in Cary, N.C.

After what had been a scoreless second half, Maria Alagoa found the net for the game-winner in the 97th minute. Jody Brown and Kirsten Pavlisko assisted.

The Demon Deacons actually scored first in the 31st minute as Sofia Rossi knocked through her eighth goal of the season. FSU answered in the 42nd minute as Lauren Flynn took advantage of a corner kick. Yujie Zhao assisted for FSU.

Cristina Roque had three saves for FSU in the victory. With the win, FSU advances to face top-seeded Virginia on Sunday. The Cavaliers beat Clemson 1-0 on Friday night to advance.

Between the Lines

In addition to FSU’s soccer match, FSU volleyball beat Clemson on Friday night, 3-1.

On the Agenda

FSU football will host NC State on Saturday. The contest begins at 4 p.m. ET and airs on ACC Network.

FSU hoops beat Florida College in an exhibition on Friday night, 102-55.
