Lead Story

Florida State golf will leave Ohio as victors. The Seminoles emerged from a 2-day mixed match play Barbara Nicklaus Cup event with the most points in a competition that also featured Ohio State, Arizona State and Auburn.

FSU was one of three teams to finish 2-1, but finished with 16.5 points to just 12 for second-place Ohio State and Arizona State. The Seminoles dominated Monday with a 7-1 win over Auburn and a 6.5-1.5 victory over Ohio State. FSU fell to Arizona State to conclude the event on Tuesday, 4-2-2.

Mixed teams of Connor Futrell and Elle Johnson and of Michael Sakane and Kaylah Williams scored wins for FSU on Tuesday. Williams was a perfect 3-0 for the event. 10 of the 12 FSU players finished with a winning record during the Barbara Nicklaus Cup.

Both FSU teams will have more than 10 days off before competing again. The FSU men begin the Jackson T. Stephens Cup in Arkansas on Oct. 18. The women will be in Texas for the Jim West Challenge, which begins on Oct. 17.

Between the Lines

The Barbara Nicklaus Cup was the lone scheduled FSU athletic event for Tuesday.

On the Agenda

FSU volleyball will be at Miami on Wednesday night. The match begins at 8 p.m. ET and airs on ACC Network.

News and Notes

FSU soccer’s Beata Olsson was named the ACC Co-Offensive Player of the Week.

Florida State football quarterback McKenzie Milton is a nominee for the Mayo Clinic Comeback Player of the Year Award.

FSU volleyball middle blocker Khori Louis was named ACC Freshman of the Week.

FSU women’s cross country moved up three spots this week to No. 15 in the USTFCCCA Poll. The men moved up nine spots to 20th.
