The Daily Nole — Sept. 3, 2021: FSU Soccer Rolls Florida, 5-2

Lead Story

In the first meeting between Florida State and Florida this athletic year, it was the Seminoles who prevailed. FSU soccer stayed undefeated with a 5-2 win on Thursday night in Tallahassee.

FSU trailed for the first time all season as Florida’s Kit Loferski found the net. That lead lasted less than a minute and less than four minutes later, the Seminoles were in the lead. Jaelin Howell, Beata Olsson and Clara Robbins all scored to help FSU build a 3-1 halftime lead.

In the second half, Olsson and Robbins each scored again to push the lead to 5-1. Howell and Yujie Zhao added assists for FSU in the victory. Florida got a goal from Shaye Seyffart in the final minute.

With the win, FSU improved to 5-0 and ran its winning streak over Florida to four. The Seminoles will have a week off before visiting Florida Gulf Coast on Thursday.

Between the Lines

In addition to the soccer victory, FSU volleyball defeated Tulane in its home opener on Thursday, 3-0.

On the Agenda

FSU cross country opens its season on Friday in Boone, N.C. for the Covered Bridge Open. FSU volleyball will play home matches against Samford at 11 a.m. ET and Virginia Commonwealth at 6:30 p.m. ET. Both matches stream on ACC Network Extra.

News and Notes

FSU women’s golf’s Beatrice Wallin was named to the preseason ANNIKA Award watch list, which annually goes to the nation’s top female player.
