The Daily Nole — Aug. 20, 2021: FSU Soccer Opens Season with Thrilling Win Over A&M

After reaching the national championship match last season, Florida State soccer’s 2021 campaign started on the right foot.

The top-ranked Seminoles opened the year with a thrilling 1-0 victory over No. 9 Texas A&M on Thursday night. Clara Robbins scored the match’s lone goal in the 89th minute.

Despite not scoring until late, FSU dominated the match. The Seminoles finished with a 14-2 advantage in shots and a 6-0 edge in corner kicks. Kenna Caldwell had six saves for the Aggies before Robbins broke through.

The victory is the 14th straight season-opening win for the Seminoles. They’ll be back in action at home against Alabama on Sunday.

FSU’s soccer victory was the lone scheduled athletic event for Thursday.

There are no FSU athletic events scheduled for Friday.

FSU running back Lawrance Toafili has been named to the Polynesian Player of the Year watch list.

FSU men’s hoops unveiled its 2021-22 non-conference schedule. The Seminoles open at home against Pennsylvania before traveling to Florida.

FSU swimming and diving has released its 2021-22 schedule.
