The Daily Nole — Aug. 19, 2021: Eight Named to FSU Hall of Fame

It’s Thursday, Florida State fans.

As the weekend inches closer, check out our daily rundown.

Lead Story

Florida State announced eight new additions to its athletic Hall of Fame on Wednesday.

The class includes current FSU men’s head basketball coach Leonard Hamilton and former FSU guard Toney Douglas. On the gridiron, former kicker and punter and 2008 Lou Groza Award winner Graham Gano will be inducted.

Golfer Jonas Blixt will also be inducted. He’s been on the PGA Tour since 2012. The other male athlete inducted will be track and field’s Ngoni Makusha, who was a national champion in the long jump.

On the women’s side, soccer’s Becky Edwards and volleyball’s Brianna Barry will be inducted. Both played for FSU from 2006 to 2009. Barry was the 2009 ACC Player of the Year.

Athletic trainer Randy Oravetz is the eighth and final inductee. He spent more than 30 years in the FSU athletic department.

On the Agenda

FSU soccer kicks off the athletic year on Thursday night at home against Texas A&M. The contest begins at 7 p.m. ET and streams on ACC Network Extra.

FSU softball assistant Travis Wilson has been elected to the The International Softball Congress.

FSU women’s golf has released its 2021-22 schedule. The Seminoles open with the Schooner Classic on Sept. 26 and 27.

Chick-fil-A will sponsor FSU’s 75th season of football in 2021.
