The Daily Nole — June 8, 2021: FSU Softball Holds Off Alabama to Reach WCWS Finals

For the second time in three NCAA Tournaments, Florida State softball is headed to the Women’s College World Series finals. The No. 10 nationally-seeded Seminoles clinched their spot by winning a WCWS record-tying eighth straight elimination game on Monday night in an 8-5 win over No. 3 national seed Alabama.

FSU scored all of its runs over the first three innings. Elizabeth Mason’s 3-run home run set the tone in the first. Kalei Harding, Kaley Mudge and Sydney Sherrill all added RBIs during a 4-run third as FSU raced to an 8-0 lead.

Bailey Hemphill got Alabama on the board in the third before adding a 2-run home run in the fifth. Danielle Watson worked the final 2.2 innings from the circle for FSU to pick up the win.

Mudge tied a WCWS record for hits during a 5-for-5 night, finishing with two RBIs and two runs scored. FSU will move on to face top-seeded Oklahoma in a best-of-3 championship series. It begins on Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. ET and will air on ESPN.
