The Daily Nole — May 28, 2021: FSU Softball Edges LSU, One Win from WCWS

Florida State athletics

It’s Friday, Florida State fans.

As you start thinking about that long weekend, check out our daily rundown.

Lead Story

One win is now all that separates Florida State softball from the Women’s College World Series. The No. 10 nationally-seeded Seminoles moved to within a game of Oklahoma City on Thursday with a 1-0 win over seventh-seeded LSU in the first game of the Baton Rouge Super Regional.

It was the third straight shutout win for FSU. Once again, the story was pitcher Kathryn Sandercock. Sandercock went the distance, allowing just two hits and one walk in the victory.

The lone run of the night came in the sixth inning when Cassidy Davis lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to score Sydney Sherrill. Sherrill had two of the six hits for FSU.

With the victory, FSU will now have two shots to win one game at LSU. The Seminoles can clinch a spot in the Women’s College World Series on Friday night. The contest begins at 7 p.m. ET and airs on ESPN2.

In addition to FSU’s softball victory, FSU track and field continued the NCAA East Preliminaries on Thursday.
