The Daily Nole — May 24, 2021: FSU Softball Blanks UCF, Advances to Super Regional

For the eighth straight NCAA Tournament, Florida State softball has reached the Super Regional.

The No. 10 nationally-seeded Seminoles clinched the Tallahassee Regional on Sunday with a 2-0 victory over UCF. In the circle, Kathryn Sandercock was lights out for FSU, tossing a 1-hit shutout. Sandercock walked just one and struck out eight.

FSU broke the scoreless tie with a pair of runs in the fourth inning. After Devyn Flaherty singled home the game’s first run, she came around to score on a fielder’s choice off the bat of Dani Morgan. Flaherty and Elizabeth Mason each had a pair of hits for FSU in the victory.

After a 3-0 showing in the Tallahassee Regional, FSU will travel to Baton Rouge to take on No. 7 national seed LSU. The Tigers fell to Louisiana in the first game on Sunday, but won 8-5 in the latter to clinch their regional.

In addition to FSU softball, FSU women’s golf finished Sunday in eighth place at the NCAA Championships.

On the Agenda

FSU women’s golf will continue the NCAA Championships on Monday.

News and Notes

Currently in eighth place, FSU women’s golf must finish the final round of stroke play in eighth place or better to advance to match play.

Various polls will be released on Monday, including the major college baseball polls.

FSU baseball will be the No. 5 seed in the ACC Tournament. The Seminoles will face Duke on Wednesday and Miami on Friday.
