The Daily Nole — May 17, 2021: FSU Women’s Tennis Top Texas A&M to Advance to Elite Eight

Lead Story

For the second time in four years, Florida State women’s tennis is bound for the Elite Eight.

The No. 7 nationally seeded Seminoles clinched that trip on Sunday with a 4-2 win over No. 10 Texas A&M at the USTA Campus in Orlando. FSU never trailed, but the contest was tied 2-2 before the Seminoles took the final two singles matches.

Nandini Das gave FSU a 3-2 lead with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 victory over Texas A&M’s Katya Townsend. Petra Hule rallied to seal the victory for FSU with a 6-7, 6-2, 6-1 win over Dorthea Faa-Hviding. After taking the doubles point, Victoria Allen gave FSU its first singles win with a straight-set victory.

With the win, FSU improves to 19-7. The Seminoles will move on to face No. 2 Texas on Wednesday in Orlando.

Between the Lines

In addition to the tennis victory, FSU baseball topped Clemson on Sunday, 9-6.

On the Agenda

FSU men’s golf will begin the Tallahassee Regional on Monday. FSU soccer will take on Santa Clara for the national championship. That contest begins at 5:30 p.m. ET and airs on ESPN2.

News and Notes

FSU softball will be the No. 10 national seed and host the Tallahassee Regional. The Seminoles will be joined by Auburn, UCF and Kennesaw State.

New polls for college baseball and various other sports will be released on Monday.
