Lead Story

Florida State’s streak of six straight ACC titles will come to an end and in heartbreaking fashion. On Friday, Duke rallied past the Seminoles in the ACC Tournament semifinals with two runs in the seventh inning for a 4-3 victory.

Thanks to FSU miscues, the Blue Devils took an early 2-0 lead in the first. After a solo home run by Sydney Sherrill cut the lead in half in the bottom of the inning, FSU took the lead with two runs in the fifth. Following an RBI single from Sherrill, a fielding error allowed Kaley Mudge to score the go-ahead run for the Seminoles.

FSU was two outs away from victory in the seventh, but Duke’s Gisele Tapia tied the game with an RBI single. A sacrifice fly off the bat of Kamryn Jackson put the Blue Devils ahead for good.

The loss is the first for FSU in the ACC Tournament since the 2013 ACC Championship against NC State. Duke will play Clemson in the ACC Championship on Sunday. FSU will wait to find out its seed and destination for the NCAA Tournament.
