The Daily Nole — May 13, 2021: FSU Women’s Golf Wins Louisville Regional

Lead Story

Florida State women’s golf needed only to finish in the top six to advance to the NCAA Championships. Instead, it won the Louisville Regional.

The Seminoles led after each of the three days and wrapped things up on Wednesday with a 3-stroke victory. As a team, FSU shot +8 to outlast second-place Texas and UCLA.

UCLA’s Emma Spitz won the individual title at -8, but FSU had two players finish in the top 10. Amelia Williamson finished tied for second at -3 while Beatrice Wallin finished tied for seventh at -1.

With the victory, FSU will turn its attention to the NCAA Championships in Scottsdale, Ariz. They begin on May 21.

Between the Lines

In addition to the women’s golf victory, FSU baseball fell to Florida Gulf Coast on Wednesday in a contest that started on Tuesday, 8-7. FSU bounced back to win the second game over Florida Gulf Coast on a walk-off home run from Elijah Cabell, 2-1.

On the Agenda

FSU track and field will begin the ACC Outdoor Championships on Thursday. FSU softball will begin the ACC Tournament against NC State. That begins at 5 p.m. ET and will stream on ACC Network. FSU soccer participates in the College Cup against Virginia. The match begins at 6 p.m. ET and airs on ESPN2.

News and Notes

FSU soccer’s Jaelin Howell and Malia Berkely have been named finalists for the MAC Hermann Trophy.

FSU volleyball’s Jordana Price has been promoted to associate head coach.

Florida State beach volleyball’s Alaina Chacon, Molly McBain, Keara Rutz and Torrey Van Winden were all named second-team All-Americans by the AVCA.

FSU football plans to have Doak Campbell Stadium at 100% capacity this season.

FSU baseball pitcher Chase Haney tied a school record by making his 136th appearance.
