The Daily Nole — May 12, 2021: FSU’s John Pak Named ACC Player of the Year

Lead Story

Florida State men’s golf had a season to remember and that was especially true for one player.

John Pak was named the ACC Player of the Year on Monday. Pak has eight wins in his career and his career 69.91-stroke average is the best in program history.

Pak joins Bobby Cochran (1994), Brooks Koepka (2010 and 2012) and Hank Lebioda (2016) as the only Seminoles to win ACC Player of the Year. He was also among three FSU players to make the All-ACC team.

Pak was joined by teammates Vincent Norrman and Brett Roberts. FSU will host a 14-team NCAA Regional, beginning on Monday.

Between the Lines

FSU women’s golf continued the NCAA Regional in Louisville on Tuesday. Through two rounds, FSU is in first place. FSU baseball’s contest with Florida Gulf Coast on Tuesday was suspended in the fifth inning with the Seminoles leading 2-1.

On the Agenda

FSU women’s golf will wrap up its NCAA Regional on Wednesday. FSU baseball will conclude Tuesday’s game with Florida Gulf Coast and play a second contest shortly after. The contest resumes at noon ET and streams on ACC Network Extra.

News and Notes

FSU softball infielder Sydney Sherrill was named ACC Defensive Player of the Year for the second straight season. Sherrill was also named first-team All-ACC along with infielder Devyn Flaherty and pitcher Kathryn Sandercock. Pitcher Caylan Arnold was named to the All-ACC second team. Outfielder Dani Morgan and utility Kalei Harding were named to the third team. Harding and Flaherty were each named to the All-ACC Freshman team.

FSU soccer’s Jaelin Howell, Malia Berkely, Emily Madril and Yujie Zhao were all named to the United Soccer Coaches All-Atlantic Region first team. Goalkeeper Cristina Roque was named to the second team.
