The Daily Nole — May 5, 2021: Two Noles Named MAC Hermann Semifinalists

Lead Story

As Florida State soccer tries to navigate its way through the NCAA Tournament, a pair of players were named semifinalists for the biggest award in college soccer.

FSU midfielder Jaelin Howell and defender Malia Berkely were each among 15 semifinalists for the MAC Hermann Trophy on Tuesday. The award is the nation’s most coveted individual honor and annually goes to the nation’s best player.

Howell was named a first-team All-ACC selection this season and the conference’s Midfielder of the Year. For the season, Howell is tied for the Seminoles’ team lead with five goals to go with two assists.

Berkely was also a first-team All-ACC selection and the ACC Defensive Player of the Year. She was a MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist in 2019 as well.

There were no FSU athletic events scheduled for Tuesday.

On the Agenda

FSU soccer will take on Penn State in the NCAA Tournament’s Sweet 16 on Wednesday. The contest begins at 3 p.m. ET.

The NCAA Men’s Golf Selection Show takes place on Wednesday.

FSU beach volleyball pairs of Keara Rutz/Torrey Van Winden, Maddie Anderson/Sara Putt and Jenna Johnson/Kate Privett earned AVCA Top Flight honors.
