The Daily Nole — May 1, 2021: FSU’s Samuel Selected in Second Round by Chargers

Lead Story

The first Florida State player off the board in the 2021 NFL Draft came on Friday night.

Cornerback Asante Samuel Jr. was selected in the second round by the Los Angeles Chargers with the 47th overall pick. He’s the highest selected FSU defensive back since Derwin James, who went 17th overall in the 2018 draft — also to the Chargers.

In eight games last season, Samuel led FSU with three interceptions and two fumble recoveries. The final four rounds of the NFL Draft take place on Saturday.

Between the Lines

FSU track and field wrapped up the UNF Invitational on Friday. FSU baseball topped Troy, 3-2. On the softball diamond, a walk-off hit powered FSU softball past NC State, 2-1.

On the Agenda

FSU soccer kicks off the NCAA Tournament on Saturday against Milwaukee. FSU softball will host NC State in a doubleheader. The first game begins at 1 p.m. ET with the second to follow at 3 p.m. ET. Both games stream on ACC Network Extra. FSU baseball will play host to Troy. That contest begins at 2 p.m. and streams on ACC Network Extra.
