The Daily Nole — April 26, 2021: FSU Beach Volleyball Edges LSU for CCSA Title

Lead Story

It couldn’t have been much closer on Sunday, but Florida State volleyball edged LSU for a fifth straight CCSA championship, 3-2.

With the match tied 2-2, all eyes turned to Court 4. FSU’s duo Sara Putt and Raelyn White had rallied from a first set loss to win the second, but trailed late in the third, 13-12. With their backs against the wall, the Seminoles scored the final three points of the dual to beat LSU’s Sydney Moore and Jess Lansman, 20-22, 21-18, 15-13.

Maddie Anderson and Alaina Chacon won in straight sets for FSU to knot the match, 1-1. Molly McBain and Payton Caffrey gave FSU a 2-1 lead with a 3-set victory over the Tigers’ pair of Ashlyn Rasnick-Pope and Grace Seits.

With the win, FSU improves to 32-4 and makes itself an automatic qualifier for the NCAA Championships. They begin May 7 in Gulf Shores, Ala.

Between the Lines

In addition to the FSU beach volleyball victory, FSU baseball held off Georgia Tech on Sunday in a game that started on Saturday, 13-10. The Seminoles then fell in the second game, 9-8. FSU softball blasted Louisville 9-0 on Sunday before playing to a scoreless tie in the second game of a doubleheader that was called due to time limits. After finishing fourth in team play, FSU men’s golf advanced to the ACC Championships finale with a 4-1 win over North Carolina.

On the Agenda

FSU men’s golf will take on Clemson in match play on Monday for the ACC Championship.

News and Notes

New baseball polls as well as polls for other sports will be unveiled on Monday.

The FSU beach volleyball pair of Maddie Anderson and Alaina Chacon was named MVPs of the CCSA Championships. Pairs of Molly McBain and Payton Caffrey and of Sara Putt and Raelyn White were named to the all-tournament team.
