The Daily Nole — April 5, 2021: FSU Baseball Tops North Carolina in Rubber Game, 8-0

Lead Story

In the rubber game of a 3-game set with North Carolina at Dick Howser Stadium on Sunday, Florida State clinched the series in convincing fashion with an 8-0 shutout.

Elijah Cabell capped a 4-run first for FSU with a 3-run home run. Matheu Nelson added a 2-run double in the fifth and that was all starting pitcher Conor Grady needed.

Grady worked seven shutout innings, allowing just three hits and no walks while striking out 10. The Tar Heels managed just four hits on the afternoon.

With the win, FSU improved to 15-9 and 10-8 in ACC play. The Seminoles will host Jacksonville on Tuesday night.

Between the Lines

In addition to FSU baseball’s victory, FSU softball blanked Notre Dame on Sunday, 5-0. FSU beach volleyball dropped a pair of matches to UCLA by 4-1 and 3-2 scores. Florida State men’s golf began the Calusa Cup. FSU women’s tennis topped Virginia Tech, 6-1.

On the Agenda

FSU men’s golf will continue the Calusa Cup in Naples on Monday.

News and Notes

FSU women’s basketball guard Morgan Jones has been selected as an honorable mention All-American by the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.

New polls for college baseball and various other sports will be released on Monday.
