The Daily Nole — March 9-10, 2021: FSU’s Barnes, Gray, Walker Earn ACC Honors

Happy hump day, Florida State fans.

We missed on Tuesday, but we’re back with our daily rundown.

Lead Story

Florida State men’s basketball was well-represented on this season’s All-ACC teams. Guards M.J. Walker and Scottie Barnes and forward RaiQuan Gray were all honored.

Walker was named second-team All-ACC while Gray and Barnes each took third-team honors. Barnes was also named ACC Freshman of the Year and Sixth Man of the Year.

Walker averaged a team-high 13.1 points per game while shooting 44% from deep. Gray shot 53% from the field while averaging 12.4 points and nearly seven rebounds per contest. Barnes averaged 10.4 points per game this season and a team-high 4.3 assists and 1.5 steals per contest.The freshman ranked in the top 10 in the ACC in each of the last two categories.

For the season, FSU is 15-5. The Seminoles will be the No. 2 seed in the ACC Tournament and face either Duke or Louisville in the quarterfinals on Thursday.

Between the Lines

FSU men’s tennis fell at Virginia 4-0 on Monday and at Virginia Tech on Tuesday, 5-2. FSU baseball’s contest with South Florida set for Tuesday was postponed.

On the Agenda

There are no FSU athletic events scheduled for Wednesday.

News and Notes

FSU beach volleyball’s Keara Rutz and Torrey Van Winden were named AVCA Pair of the Week.

Florida State football began spring practice on Tuesday.

FSU baseball’s Parker Messick was named ACC Pitcher of the Week.

FSU hoops’ Balsa Koprivica and Sardaar Calhoun were each named to the All-ACC Academic team.

Florida State basketball fell from No. 11 to No. 15 in the AP Poll and to No. 13 in the Amway Coaches Poll.
