The Daily Nole — Feb. 27, 2021: FSU Women’s Tennis Takes Down NC State in Top-10 Match-up

Lead Story

In a match-up of top-10 teams in Tallahassee on Friday, Florida State women’s tennis stayed hot. The fifth-ranked Seminoles won their fifth straight match with a 5-2 victory over No. 9 NC State.

The Wolfpack took the doubles point and drew even at 2-2 when Adriana Reami beat FSU’s Nandini Das in straight sets, but the final three duals belonged to the Seminoles. Victoria Allen clinched the match for FSU with a hard-fought 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 win over NC State’s Jaeda Daniel.

Emmanuelle Salas and Andrea Garcia gave FSU its first lead with straight-set victories. Like Allen, Giulia Pairone and Petra Hule each won in three sets for FSU.

With the win, FSU improved to 8-1 on the season and 3-0 in ACC play. The Seminoles will remain home to take on Wake Forest on Sunday.

Between the Lines

In addition to the women’s tennis victory, FSU swimming and diving and track and field each continued the ACC Championships. FSU men’s tennis swept a doubleheader against Tennessee Tech with 6-1 and 4-3 victories. FSU volleyball also went 2-0 on Friday with a 3-0 win over Troy and a 3-2 victory over UCF. After day No. 1, FSU women’s golf leads the Florida State Match-Up. FSU baseball opened ACC play with a 1-0 loss to Pittsburgh. FSU softball kicked off the Unconquered Invitational with a 7-0 win over Florida Gulf Coast.

On the Agenda

Both FSU swimming and diving and track and field will wrap up the ACC Championships on Saturday. FSU baseball hosts Pittsburgh in a contest that begins at 8 p.m. ET and airs on ACC Network. FSU hoops will be at North Carolina for a showdown that begins at 4 p.m. ET and airs on ESPN. The Unconquered Invitational for FSU softball resumes with contests against Florida Gulf Coast at 12:30 p.m. ET and Southeastern Louisiana at 3 p.m. ET. Both stream on ACC Network Extra. FSU women’s golf will resume the Florida State Match-Up. FSU beach volleyball opens its season with matches against Southern Mississippi and Loyola Marymount.

FSU hoops is currently listed as a 2.5-point favorite over North Carolina.

Florida State football officially announced the hires of Nate Andrews and Sabbath Joseph to its football staff and promoted Cooper Williams to graduate assistant on offense.
