The Daily Nole — Feb. 20, 2021: FSU Softball Holds Off Georgia Tech to Complete Sweep

Lead Story

Florida State softball completed the 3-game sweep of Georgia Tech on Friday in Atlanta, but it did not come easy.

After jumping to a 4-run lead, FSU escaped with a 5-4 victory. Cassidy Davis homered in the victory while Josie Muffley and Dani Morgan combined to go 4-for-5 with three RBIs.

FSU led 5-1 in the fourth before Crosby Huckabay drew the Yellow Jackets to within one with a 3-run home run. Caylan Arnold shut the door on Georgia Tech by allowing just one run in three scoreless innings to pick up the save.

With the win, FSU improved to 6-1 on the season and 3-0 in ACC play. The Seminoles remain in Atlanta on Saturday to take on Virginia Tech in a doubleheader.

Between the Lines

In addition to the FSU softball victory, FSU swimming and diving continued the ACC Championships. FSU men’s golf is in first place after one day at the Seminole Intercollegiate. FSU men’s tennis fell to Clemson, 4-3.

On the Agenda

In addition to the FSU softball doubleheader, FSU swimming and diving will continue the ACC Championships. FSU men’s golf resumes the Seminole Intercollegiate. FSU men’s hoops will be at Pittsburgh. That contest begins at 4 p.m. ET and airs on Raycom Sports Networks. FSU women’s tennis visits Clemson. FSU baseball opens its season by hosting North Florida. That one begins at 2 p.m. ET and streams on ACC Network Extra.

News and Notes

FSU hoops head coach Leonard Hamilton was named to the Werner Ladder Naismith National Coach of the Year late season watch list.

Florida State basketball is currently listed as a 5.5-point favorite over Pittsburgh.
