The Daily Nole — Feb. 19, 2021: FSU Softball Opens ACC Play with Pair of Wins

Lead Story

ACC play started earlier than usual this year for Florida State softball, but on Thursday in Atlanta, that was no problem.

The Seminoles got off to a 2-0 start in conference play with a doubleheader sweep of Georgia Tech. Wins came by scores of 8-1 and 7-3.

A 5-run sixth inning blew the first game open for FSU. Jahni Kerr and Devyn Flaherty each homered in the contest while Dani Morgan was 2-for-3 with four RBIs.

In the second game, it was a 4-run fifth that opened things up. Kalei Harding was 4-for-4 with three RBIs in the victory. Elizabeth Mason had a pair of doubles and plated a pair of runs.

FSU remains in the ACC pod on Friday for the final of three games against Georgia Tech. The contest begins at 1 p.m. ET and airs on ACC Network.

Between the Lines

In addition to FSU softball’s doubleheader victory, FSU swimming and diving continued the ACC Championships on Thursday. FSU women’s basketball fell to Georgia Tech, 62-48.

On the Agenda

In addition to Friday’s FSU softball game, FSU swimming and diving will continue the ACC Championships. FSU men’s tennis will host Clemson. FSU men’s golf will begin the Seminole Intercollegiate.

News and Notes

FSU baseball’s Robby Martin has been named to the Golden Spikes Award watch list.

FSU football landed a commitment from 2023 defensive end Lamont Green Jr. on Thursday. Green’s father, Lamont Green, played football at FSU.

FSU baseball left-handed pitcher Parker Messick will start Saturday’s season opener against North Florida. Carson Montgomery and Conor Grady will start for the Seminoles in Sunday’s doubleheader.

2023 defensive end Gabriel Harris has committed to Florida State.
