The Daily Nole — Feb. 12, 2021: FSU Women Storm Past Syracuse, 67-52

Lead Story

Squarely on the NCAA Tournament bubble, Florida State women’s basketball scored a big win on Thursday night against Syracuse. The Seminoles overcame a slow start to top the Orange, 67-52.

FSU fell behind 9-2 early, but outscored Syracuse 30-9 to close the half. The Orange were able to cut what was once an 18-point second-half deficit to single digits, but the Seminoles made big shots when they had to.

FSU held the Orange to just 30% shooting for the game. Bianca Jackson paced FSU with a game-high 18 points and five assists. Morgan Jones added 13 points and seven rebounds in the victory.

Leading the way for Syracuse was Kamilla Cardoso, who tallied 14 points and seven rebounds. Tiana Mangakahia and Kiara Lewis added 13 and 12 points, respectively, in the loss.

With the win, FSU improved to 7-5 and 6-5 in ACC play. The Seminoles will host rival Miami on Sunday.

Between the Lines

FSU women’s hoops’ victory was the lone scheduled athletic event for Thursday.

On the Agenda

FSU track and field will be at Arkansas for the Tyson Invite, beginning on Friday. Florida State softball opens its season with the JoAnne Graf Classic. The Seminoles will take on Memphis at 12:30 p.m. ET and Missouri at 3 p.m. ET on ACC Network Extra. FSU women’s tennis will host North Florida while the men host Auburn.

News and Notes

FSU baseball was picked to finish third in the ACC Atlantic behind projected champion Louisville and NC State. Miami was picked to win the ACC Coastal.
