The Daily Nole — Dec. 16, 2020: FSU Hoops Runs Past Georgia Tech, 74-61

Lead Story

Georgia Tech made a big second-half run on Tuesday night at the Donald L. Tucker Center, but it was not enough as No. 15 Florida State stayed perfect on the year with a 74-61 victory.

The Yellow Jackets used a 15-0 run to cut a 16-point FSU lead down to one. FSU then closed the game on a 23-11 run to win with ease.

Freshman Scottie Barnes paced the Seminoles with 16 points on a night where they shot 53% from the field. M.J. Walker added 14 points in the victory while Wyatt Wilkes, Anthony Polite and Balsa Koprivica tallied 11, 10 and 10 points, respectively. Koprivica led FSU with eight rebounds.

Michael Devoe led Georgia Tech with a game-high 21 points. With the win, FSU improves to 4-0 on the season. It marks the first time since the 2016-17 season that the Seminoles have opened ACC play with a win.

Between the Lines

FSU’s basketball victory was the lone athletic contest scheduled for Tuesday.

On the Agenda

There are no FSU athletic events scheduled for Wednesday.

News and Notes

College football’s Early Signing Period begins on Wednesday.

FSU’s basketball contest with Gardner-Webb set for Dec. 21 has been moved to 7 p.m. ET. It will air regionally on Raycom Sports Networks.
