The Daily Nole — Nov. 24, 2020: Norvell Weighs in on COVID Controversy

Florida State athletics

It’s Tuesday, Florida State fans.

As your holiday week continues, we’ll get you up on the latest in FSU athletics. Check out our daily rundown.

Lead Story

Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney has not been shy about his displeasure with having to leave Tallahassee without playing Florida State on Saturday. The contest between the Seminoles and Tigers was postponed after a Clemson player, who had been symptomatic, tested positive for COVID-19.

Swinney insisted that he felt the FSU administration used it as a way to get out of the game. On Monday, FSU head coach Mike Norvell said that was not the case.

“It was something, this decision was made by medical advisors, professionals that received the information Friday night, from Clemson. And there was concern,” Norvell said, according to a report from Noles247. “There was concern in a lot of different aspects from where that situation was and just the experiences throughout the week. That was the decision medical advisors made there Saturday morning, and I’m appreciative of the protocols there on Friday and being able to have that test in place.”

Swinney has insisted that FSU either forfeit the game or pay for Clemson’s travel should there be a makeup date. FSU has offered Dec. 12 as a makeup date.

“I know that there’s a lot of things being said when it comes to financials, and if contributions need to be made, then I’ll sign up to make one,” Norvell said.
