Your Thoughts Thursday: FSU Will Secure the Top Seed in ACC Tournament

Come this time next week, Florida State basketball will have just one regular season game remaining.

At 14-3 in conference and 24-4 overall, the Seminoles are currently in sole possession of first place in the ACC with three games remaining. FSU has already clinched a double-bye. This week, we asked our social media followers which seed FSU would be in the coming ACC Tournament.

55 percent of the 228 accounts to respond predict FSU being the top seed. 39 percent see the Seminoles being the No. 2. 4 percent said FSU will be the No. 3 seed and 2 percent said the No. 4 seed.

Our Take
We’ll cautiously go with those who responded this week.

Two of FSU’s final three games are on the road, but both are winnable. The Seminoles will likely be favored in road games against Clemson and Notre Dame, but winning on the road in conference isn’t easy.

If FSU and Duke finished in a tie, the Blue Devils would hold the tiebreaker, but winning out isn’t a slam dunk for Duke. The Blue Devils are coming off embarrassing road losses to NC State and Wake Forest. A trip to reigning national champion Virginia is still on the slate for Saturday.

While a head-to-head tiebreaker with Duke would work against the Seminoles, a 3-way tiebreaker with FSU, Duke and Louisville would bode well for the Seminoles. FSU has a 2-1 combined record against those teams. Duke is 1-1. Louisville is 1-2.
