With softball season just around the corner, that’s where we turned our attention for this week’s The Daily Nole Poll.

This week, we asked our readers which Florida State player would lead the team in home runs. Nearly half said last season’s leader.

Nearly 50 percent of the 119 accounts to respond predict that junior infielder Sydney Sherrill will lead the Seminoles in home runs again. Catcher Anna Shelnutt received 26 percent of the vote. Utility players Elizabeth Mason and Dani Morgan got 13 and 11 percent, respectively.

Our Take
This week, we think our followers nailed it. Infielder Sydney Sherrill will lead Florida State in homers for a second straight year.

There is plenty of power for FSU in the lineup, but Sherrill provides the most. She also provides it to all fields.

The overall strength of the lineup is something that will work to Sherrill’s advantage. Outside of the junior from Oklahoma, FSU has four other players who hit at least 10 home runs last season. With that type of protection, Sherrill will see plenty of pitches to hit.

In two seasons, Sherrill has 28 home runs, which included a team-high 16 last season. She’s also led the Seminoles in doubles in each of the last two seasons.
