With more than a week separating us from the annual rivalry contest between Florida State and Florida, we asked our social media followers this week a question pertaining to the current coaching search.

This week, followers were asked whether interim head coach Odell Haggins deserves consideration for the permanent position. While a beloved figure by the Seminole faithful, the most popular answer among the 247 accounts that responded say Haggins should not be considered for the job.

More than half said Haggins should not be considered for the job. 26 percent said he should while 22 percent were unsure.

Our Take
It’s rare, but we are actually going against the grain on this one. Depending on how the season shakes out, Odell Haggins should be auditioning for the permanent role.

We made that case and stated our reasons for Hot Take Tuesday on Nov. 12. Six of the top eight teams currently ranked in the AP Poll made an internal hire for their head coach.

While Haggins has never served as a coordinator, there’s no reason that he can’t be a CEO type of coach and manage a competent staff. Unlike with other candidates, Haggins bleeds garnet and gold and would be at FSU for the long term. He would also be a more cost-effective option than a lot of head coaches, especially considering the deal that Willie Taggart received just a couple years ago.

A 3-time ACC Recruiter of the Year who has spent nearly three decades at FSU as a player, assistant and interim head coach, Haggins knows the program inside and out. Haggins should not be handed the job, but the remainder of the season and particularly the regular season finale at Florida should be considered an audition.
