Your Thoughts Thursday: FSU Will Beat Boston College by a Score

If Florida State is to avoid missing a bowl game for the second straight season, Saturday’s contest in Chestnut Hill against Boston College is probably a must-win.

For this week’s The Daily Nole Poll, we asked our social media followers who would win the contest. Despite the Eagles having a better record and being at home, FSU was still picked by 69 percent of the 152 accounts that responded.

43 percent have Florida State winning a close one while 26 percent see it winning multiple scores. 15 percent had Boston College winning a 1-score game. 16 percent see the Eagles winning by at least nine.

Our Take
Earlier in the week, I probably would have gone a different direction, but I think interim head coach Odell Haggins will have FSU ready to play.

Boston College is the best rushing team in the ACC and second nationally in yards per game, but the Seminoles have actually been pretty good against the run in ACC play, yielding just 3.6 yards per rush. A.J. Dillon is a load at tailback for the Eagles and losing Marvin Wilson is a huge blow for FSU, but if Boston College is forced to throw the ball on third down, I’m not convinced that quarterback Dennis Grosel can win this game.

On the other side of the ball, Boston College is yielding more yards per game than any other ACC team and is giving up more points than any team in the conference except Louisville. FSU’s offensive line is still suspect, but Boston College has the fewest sacks of any team in the ACC with 11.

I’ll take the Seminoles on the road: FSU 38, Boston College 34.
