Replacing the school’s all-time leading rusher and the NFL’s current leading rusher in Dalvin Cook was no small task, but Florida State junior running back Cam Akers has fulfilled those duties about as admirable as one could have expected.

Despite playing behind a dismal offensive line for a large part of his career, Akers has quietly worked his way up the FSU record books. Following last week’s 2-touchdown effort in a 22-20 loss at Wake Forest, the Mississippi native is now in the top 25 all-time in scoring for the Seminoles.

Akers moved into a tie with Antone Smith at 23rd all-time with 162 career points. Akers is currently tied for 11th all-time at FSU in touchdowns with 27 and is two away from tying Greg Carr to move into the top 10.

Finding the end zone is something that Akers has done proficiently this season as he has a career-high 11 total — eight rushing and three receiving. That leads the ACC and ranks seventh nationally.

With 66 total points, Akers ranks second in the ACC in scoring behind only Wake Forest kicker Nick Sciba, who has 67 points. The Seminoles haven’t had a player lead the ACC in scoring since kicker Roberto Aguayo accomplished the feat in 2013.

Akers will look to add to an impressive total and impressive career on Saturday afternoon as the Seminoles host Syracuse on homecoming. Akers rushed for a career-high 199 yards in the Orange’s last trip to Doak Campbell Stadium two years ago.
